In this work I take inspiration from the ecofeminist movement. In many ways the subjugation of women is analogous to the subjugation of nature, both a result of western patriarchal ideology. In these graphite drawings a woman’s face emerges along with botanical shapes, her image built through a process of additive mark-making as well as erasures, symbolizing the ongoing struggles as women fight to reclaim their voices throughout history. Words appear at moments throughout the image, ghostly, and much like whispers or rustling leaves
